Center Director, Senior Program Director
Mary V. Gordon is a Senior Program Director at the Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation (PIRE) in Calverton, MD. A PIRE employee since May, 1992, she has worked on a number of health related projects.
Currently, Mary Gordon is the Director for PIRE’s Underage Drinking Enforcement Training Center (UDETC) –the only National training and technical assistance (TTA) Center with a sole focus of preventing youth access to alcohol. In her role as a Director, Ms. Gordon manages a two million dollar budget, supervises the senior staff, manages more than 30 trainers/consultants and is the liaison for training and technical assistance (TTA) for ten states/territories. Since 1999 the UDETC mission has been to prevent or reduce the consequences of underage drinking. Through Mary’s program administration she provides on-site trainings, expert technical assistance and develops success stories. Mary has experience in sharing effective approaches to the prevention of underage drinking, including working with UDETC’s youth initiative, the territories and college campuses. Mary was also the Principal Investigator (PI) for the Center’s Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA) contract. The contract addressed the underage drinking technical assistance needs of CADCA’s newly developed National Coalition Institute. Across her PIRE career, she has been responsible for program administration, strategic policy development and training in several health and behavioral research programs. Ms. Gordon has extensive experience managing complex projects to assure that deliverables are timely and maximally useful to all stakeholders. She has exercised this skill at the state, local, and federal levels, working with diverse and mainstream populations, to improve public health outcomes.
She holds a Master’s Degree from New York University and a Bachelor’s degree from Manhattanville College. Ms. Gordon has more than twenty-five years of professional experience in the field of program administration, research, training and evaluation. Since 1999, Mary also served as a consultant to the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) High School Student Research Apprentice Program.
